Stephanie Sparks, a former All-American college golfer and U.S. Curtis Cup player, recently passed away at the age of 50 in Orlando. Sparks had a successful amateur career, winning prestigious events such as the 1992 North and South Women’s Amateur and the 1993 Women’s Western Amateur and Women’s Eastern Amateur. She also excelled in college golf at Duke University, earning All-American honors in her freshman and sophomore years. Sparks represented the United States on the 1994 Curtis Cup team.

Unfortunately, injuries cut Sparks’ professional golf career short after just one season on the LPGA Tour. Despite this setback, golf remained an important part of her life. In 2004, she portrayed Alexa Stirling in the film “Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius.” She later became a co-host of Golf Channel’s reality show “Big Break,” where contestants competed for opportunities to play in professional events. Sparks also appeared on other Golf Channel programs such as “Golf With Style” and “Playing Lessons with the Pros.”

Tom Abbott, Sparks’ co-host on “Big Break” for seven years, praised her understanding of the contestants’ challenges and her desire for their success. He mentioned that Sparks, having been a professional golfer herself, empathized with the participants and supported them through their emotional journeys on the show. Abbott highlighted Sparks’ compassion and insight into the difficulties of pursuing a career in golf.

Sparks’ legacy extends beyond her television appearances, as she was a role model for aspiring golfers and a respected figure in the golf community. Her dedication to the sport and her willingness to help others achieve their goals left a lasting impact on those who knew her. Sparks’ contributions to golf, both as a player and a media personality, have solidified her place in the history of the game.

The golf world mourns the loss of Stephanie Sparks, a talented athlete and a beloved television personality. Her passion for golf and her commitment to promoting the sport through various outlets have left a lasting impression on fans and colleagues alike. Sparks’ memory will live on through her achievements on the course and her influence on aspiring golfers around the world. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire generations of golfers to come.
