Cognizant Classic Victory: A Rare Achievement on the PGA Tour

Joe Highsmith’s win at the 2025 Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches was nothing short of remarkable. After making the cut on the number with a four-foot, seven-inch par putt on Friday, Highsmith went on to shoot a 7-under 64 in the third round and a bogey-free 64 in the final round to finish at 19-under par and claim his first PGA Tour win. This victory marked the first time in nine years that a player had made the cut on the number and gone on to win, with Brandt Snedeker being the last to do so at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open.

Highsmith credits his success at the Cognizant Classic to a change in mindset and a hot putter. Over the weekend, he made 231 feet of putts, including several birdie putts from long distances. Despite a less than stellar warmup before the final round, Highsmith’s putter carried him through the challenging Champion Course at PGA National, propelling him past some of the PGA Tour’s most notable names. His 36-hole score of 128 over the weekend is the lowest 36-hole finish in the event’s 53-year history.

The 24-year-old golfer’s win at the Cognizant Classic has earned him a two-year exemption and spots in prestigious tournaments such as the Masters, PGA Championship, Players, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Highsmith’s journey to victory began with that “sketchy” par putt on Friday that secured his spot for the weekend. Despite the pressure of making the cut, Highsmith committed to the putt and it ended up being the starting point of his remarkable comeback.

Highsmith’s success at the Cognizant Classic showcases the power of perseverance and mental clarity in the game of golf. His ability to stay focused and trust his putter under pressure led to a historic win and a life-changing moment in his career. As Highsmith continues to hone his skills and build on this victory, he is poised to make a name for himself on the PGA Tour and inspire other aspiring golfers to never give up on their dreams.
