Collin Morikawa is definitely back in the groove

Collin Morikawa, a two-time major champion, surprised many with a T-3 finish at the Masters after struggling earlier in the season. Despite his recent struggles, he has shown a resurgence in form at the RBC Heritage tournament with a tie for the lead heading into the weekend. Morikawa credited a swing change he discovered before the Masters for his improved performance, coupled with a switch to a mallet putter that has reflected in his overall game.

At Harbour Town, Morikawa has only made a single bogey in 36 holes and is currently tied for the lead with Tom Hoge and Sepp Straka. Despite not expecting to be in this position, Morikawa remained confident in his abilities after positive signs in his practice rounds leading up to the tournament. His improved play has been evident in various strokes gained categories, particularly in putting and playing around the green.

Morikawa’s focus on staying present in his game and not getting ahead of himself has helped him navigate through rounds where his ball-striking may not be at its best. He emphasized the importance of scrambling and making birdies to maintain momentum. The “Eureka” moment he experienced with his swing change has been a significant turning point in his game, allowing him to make sense of past struggles and rediscover his winning form on the course.

As Morikawa continues to perform well at the RBC Heritage, the golf world is taking notice of his renewed success. His consistent play and improved statistics in key areas of his game indicate a return to his peak performance level. While the focus may shift to Morikawa with a potential tournament win, his current form suggests that he has found the key to unlocking his full potential as one of the younger generation’s top talents in golf.
