The 2024 Solheim Cup is set to take place at Virginia’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, with the US team looking to regain the Cup from their European rivals. Historically, the Solheim Cup has been closely contested, with the US leading the series 10-8. Europe will aim to be the first team to keep the Cup four straight times in 2024. The event is held biennially, usually in even-numbered years, and positioned in alternate years to the Ryder Cup.

In terms of fantasy foursome or four-ball matches, standout players include Americans Dottie Pepper and Christina Kim, and Europeans Janice Moodie and Carin Koch. Since the start of the Solheim Cup in 1990, 14 different countries have been represented on Team Europe, with England and Sweden contributing the most players. In the US, California and Florida have the highest representation on the team. The performance of players from different regions has varied, with some proving to be clutch players in the competition.

Team Europe has seen strong performances from players representing countries like England, Sweden, Scotland, Spain, France, and Germany. Clutch players like Laura Davies, Caroline Hedwall, and Catriona Matthew have contributed significantly to their team’s success. Team USA, on the other hand, has had key players from states like California, Florida, Texas, New York, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. Players like Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, and Lexi Thompson have been instrumental in the US team’s victories.

The Solheim Cup trophy itself weighs approximately 20 lbs and is made of cut-glass Irish Waterford crystal on a mahogany base. In comparison, the Ryder Cup, which was commissioned in 1927, weighs 4 lbs and is made of gold. Individual matches in the Solheim Cup have seen 472 matches contested across previous editions, with Team USA winning 208 matches and Europe winning 193. The Americans have excelled in singles matches, while the Europeans have had the edge in foursomes and four-ball competitions.

Evan Rothman, a Golf.com contributor, provides insights into the Solheim Cup, highlighting the competitive history of the tournament and key players to watch out for in the 2024 edition. As the teams gear up for another showdown, the excitement and anticipation surrounding the Solheim Cup continue to grow. With a rich history and tradition, the Solheim Cup has become a premier event in women’s golf, showcasing the talent and skills of the best players from the US and Europe.
