The 43rd Curtis Cup brought together Great Britain & Ireland and the USA for a thrilling day of golf at Sunningdale Golf Club. The morning foursomes saw the USA take a 2-1 lead, but a chip-in from Sara Byrne on the 17th hole helped GB&I level the scores at 3-3 after the afternoon fourballs. The teams will now compete in three sets of foursomes and fourball matches before the eight singles matches on Sunday, with GB&I aiming to win the Curtis Cup for the first time since 2016.

The event drew large crowds who enjoyed the late summer sunshine at Sunningdale as they watched the players compete in the afternoon fourball matches. Jasmine Koo and Asterisk Talley secured a 5&4 victory over their GB&I opponents with an impressive display of golf, while Hannah Darling and Aine Donegan recorded six birdies and an eagle in their one-hole win. In the final match of the day, Byrne and Lottie Woad triumphed with a brave performance that included eight birdies and a chip-in for a winning birdie from Byrne.

In the morning foursomes, the USA took a one-point advantage as Melanie Green and Rachel Kuehn claimed an emphatic 6&4 victory. The remaining matches were full of drama, with Beth Coulter and Donegan securing a valuable half-point and Woad and Byrne impressively moving two up with three holes to play after a thrilling comeback. Despite Park and Talley salvaging an unlikely half-point for the USA, the session ended with the Americans leading by one point.

GB&I captain Catriona Matthew expressed her delight with her team’s performance, emphasizing their good comeback after the morning session. She praised the standard of golf displayed by both teams and highlighted the excitement of the fourball matches. With the team’s confidence growing, Matthew is looking forward to the remaining matches and hoping to secure victory in the Curtis Cup.

Overall, the 43rd Curtis Cup delivered a day of exceptional golf and exciting competition between Great Britain & Ireland and the USA. The players showcased their skills and resilience throughout the morning foursomes and afternoon fourball matches, with notable performances from Byrne, Woad, Koo, and Talley. As the event continues, fans can look forward to more thrilling matches and the potential for a historic win for GB&I in the prestigious Curtis Cup tournament.
