Golfing at Goat Hill Park in Southern California is a unique and unforgettable experience, as described by Jack Hirsh from GOLF. The author shared his recent visit to Goat Hill Park, where he took part in a late-afternoon round with colleagues and friends. Despite mistaking a shot for a hole-in-one, the magic of the course and the camaraderie with fellow golfers made the experience truly special. Goat Hill Park, originally a nine-hole course, has a rich history and has been transformed into an 18-hole short course that offers incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains.

The course went through a period of decline in the early 2000s but was saved by a group of locals who fought against redevelopment. Under new management, led by John Ashworth, Goat Hill Park has become a beloved and legendary muni golf course in Southern California. While the course may not be in perfect condition, the greens are smooth, fairways well-maintained, and the overall experience is worth every penny of the $25 walking fee. The chill vibe at Goat Hill Park is one of its standout features, with golfers, dogs, range goers, music listeners, and beer drinkers all coexisting in a laid-back atmosphere.

The inclusive nature of Goat Hill Park is reflected in its relaxed dress code and the presence of shorter tees for kids called the “Baby Goat.” The course also offers frisbee golf for those looking for a different kind of challenge. Despite the short holes, Goat Hill Park presents its own set of challenges that require strategic thinking and precision. While water hazards are absent, the undulating terrain and unique hole layouts make for an engaging round of golf. Overall, Goat Hill Park offers a fun and affordable golfing experience for players of all skill levels.

One of the highlights of Goat Hill Park is the opportunity to play late-afternoon rounds and catch the sunset on the course. With twilight rates starting at just $35, golfers can enjoy a leisurely round with plenty of time to complete a full 18 holes. The relaxed pace of play and friendly atmosphere make Goat Hill Park a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re seeking a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience or simply want to unwind with friends on the course, Goat Hill Park offers something special for everyone.

Jack Hirsh’s experience at Goat Hill Park serves as a reminder that golf is not just about the game itself but also about the camaraderie, memories, and moments shared with friends and fellow golfers. The unique setting of Goat Hill Park, with its stunning views and laid-back vibe, creates a truly memorable golfing experience that is unmatched by traditional country clubs or high-end resorts. As golfers continue to seek out new and exciting courses to play, Goat Hill Park stands out as a hidden gem that offers a refreshing change of pace from the usual golfing experience. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a casual player looking to have some fun on the course, Goat Hill Park is a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts of all ages.
