The 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 has reached its midway point, with the cut made and 74 players remaining to compete over the weekend. Tiger Woods, one of the biggest names in golf, missed the cut after firing rounds of 74-73 (+7). This was a notable disappointment for fans and observers of the sport, as there was speculation that Pinehurst could have been one of Tiger’s last best chances to bag a major championship outside of Augusta National. Despite showing moments of brilliance, Tiger’s scoring inconsistencies ultimately led to his early exit from the tournament.

Another disappointment at the U.S. Open was Scottie Scheffler’s second-round 74, which included zero birdies. Scheffler, who seemed like a good fit for the course, appeared out of his comfort zone and struggled with his game. Brooks Koepka, known for his success in major championships, also had a rollercoaster performance that led to a close call with the cut line. Many other big names, including Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Collin Morikawa, also struggled to find their form and are not competitive heading into the weekend.

Fans of Justin Thomas were left disappointed by his performance at the U.S. Open, where he struggled with his approach shots and ultimately missed the cut. Thomas, who has shown flashes of brilliance in recent years, continues to struggle to maintain momentum in major championships. Despite his talent, inconsistencies in his game have prevented him from achieving the level of success that many expected from him. This disappointing performance is another setback for Thomas in his quest to establish himself as a dominant player in the world of golf.

Viktor Hovland, another rising star in the game, also failed to make the cut at the U.S. Open after a poor showing in the first round. Hovland, who had momentum coming into the tournament, was unable to recover from a rough start and fell short of making the weekend rounds. His performance highlights the unpredictable nature of golf and serves as a reminder that even the most talented players can struggle on any given day. Hovland’s early exit from the tournament showcases the challenges that players face in maintaining consistent success at the highest level of competition.

Overall, the 2024 U.S. Open has been filled with surprises and disappointments, as top players like Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, and Justin Thomas failed to make the cut. The tournament remains wide open heading into the weekend, with new leaders emerging and the opportunity for lesser-known players to make their mark on the game. The unpredictability of golf was on full display at Pinehurst No. 2, reminding fans and players alike that success in the sport requires a combination of skill, consistency, and mental toughness. As the remaining players prepare to battle it out for the U.S. Open title, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to this prestigious tournament.
