Sedge Valley, the newest addition to Sand Valley Golf Resort, has quickly become a favorite among golfers for its challenging layout and strategic design. Open since July, the 5,829-yard, par-68 course was designed by architect Tom Doak and his team at Renaissance Golf Design, in collaboration with brothers Chris and Michael Keiser. The course is located in central Wisconsin and offers a unique combination of playability and strategic challenges on rolling terrain.
One of the standout features of Sedge Valley is its wide fairways and compelling green complexes that keep players on their toes. The course was inspired by classic heathland English courses, and it lives up to that promise with its dynamic layout. Despite its sub-6,000-yard length and par-68 designation, the course is not to be underestimated. The fairways are ample, but the challenges lie in the details of the green complexes and strategic shot placement.
The course features options galore off the tee, with holes like the 6th offering multiple routes to the green. Players must carefully consider their approach shots to avoid the treacherous bunkers that dot the course. The 12th hole, for example, requires a well-placed layup to the left side of the fairway to secure a good angle to the green. A misstep to the right can lead to an uphill shot and a trickier approach.
Despite its modest length, Sedge Valley features several challenging par-4s that test players’ decision-making skills. The final hole, a 318-yard par-4, is particularly memorable with its elevated fairway and small green tucked into the folds of the terrain. The course also features a mix of short and long par-3s, as well as a standout par-5 that offers plenty of space for players to go for the green in two.
The course’s unconventional features and strategic layout have made it a standout among the other courses at Sand Valley Golf Resort. Players are treated to a unique golfing experience that engages their imagination at every turn. The resort’s budget-friendly amenities, including a $1 Italian beef sandwich at the halfway house, add to the overall appeal of playing at Sedge Valley. With its challenging layout and scenic views, Sedge Valley is sure to become a favorite destination for golfers looking for a memorable round of golf.
