Investing nearly $1500 in a custom-fit putter may seem steep at first glance. However, a putter fitting can be a highly effective way to improve your golf game. Fairway Jockey President Wadeh Maroun recently underwent a custom fitting at Ping’s PLD Custom putter lab with Ping Master Putter Fitter Alex Webb. They started with a putter similar to Wadeh’s current model and a DS72 mid-mallet head shape designed for Viktor Hovland.
After testing, Wadeh received a +1.0 putting handicap from the iPing App but Webb noted some improvements in consistency with shaft lean. They then experimented with different putter configurations, including a shorter length shaft with added weight and a head with toe hang. Wadeh’s putting handicap improved to +3.5 with the adjustments. The final head shape they settled on was a Piper H, which provided toe hang for Wadeh’s stroke style.
The Piper H head shape had a traditional Anser-style hosel that was ideal for Wadeh’s stroke. Wadeh was pleased with the final head shape, which was similar to his current putter but with a different hosel shape. He was excited to test it out on the course and aim for a scratch golfer handicap.
