St. Moritz, a picturesque village in Switzerland, was once a quiet agricultural community known for its mild summers. However, everything changed in 1864 when Johannes Badrutt, owner of the Kulm Hotel, made a bold bet with English summer guests, inviting them to experience the beauty of St. Moritz in the winter. Four guests accepted the challenge and were charmed by the sunny, crisp conditions and stunning snowy landscapes, inspiring others to visit. This marked the beginning of St. Moritz’s transformation into one of the world’s first premier winter resorts, a reputation that would only grow over time.

Long before St. Moritz became a winter sports haven, it was revered as a vital health retreat. Historical evidence shows that people have been visiting St. Moritz for over 3,000 years to bathe in its mineral-rich springs. The carbonic acid in the waters stimulates circulation and revitalizes the body, making it a popular destination for health-conscious travellers. By 1859, St. Moritz could accommodate 450 guests, solidifying its status as a prominent health destination. However, after World War I, the town’s focus shifted to winter sports, leading to the burgeoning popularity of skiing and other snow activities.

St. Moritz’s reputation as a winter sports destination was solidified when it hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948, along with numerous world championships. The town is home to iconic winter sports such as the legendary Cresta Run, the world’s first man-made sledding course, constructed in 1884. Unique events like skijoring, where horses pull skiers across snow, and the world’s first bob run on natural ice also found their footing in St. Moritz. These events and attractions have contributed to the village’s status as a mecca for winter sports enthusiasts around the world.

From a modest village to a world-renowned destination, St. Moritz’s transformation can be attributed to its rich history, natural beauty, and one historic bet that changed everything. The village’s evolution from a summer retreat to a bustling winter resort is a testament to its resilience and ability to adapt to changing trends in travel and leisure. Today, St. Moritz continues to attract visitors from across the globe, offering a unique blend of luxury, adventure, and natural beauty that sets it apart from other winter destinations.

One of the must-visit attractions in St. Moritz is the Kulm Golf Club, located next to the famous Cresta Bobsleigh Run. The club offers a stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains and pristine landscapes, making it a popular spot for golf enthusiasts looking to combine sport with spectacular scenery. Visitors can enjoy a round of golf while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding area, creating a truly unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a beginner looking to try something new, the Kulm Golf Club is a must-visit destination in St. Moritz.
