Exploring Streamsong Resort in Florida: A Golf Enthusiast’s Paradise

Tampa and Orlando are two popular tourist destinations in Florida, but if you’re looking to add something extra to your trip, consider visiting The Streamsong Resort. Located on a former phosphate mining site near Fort Meade, this resort offers a unique and fabulous golfing experience just a 45-minute drive from the major tourism hot spots of the sunshine state. With dramatic terrain of towering sand dunes, deep-water lakes, and expansive landscapes, Streamsong features three celebrated courses, Red, Blue, and Black, with a fourth concept course called the Chain, and a fifth course currently in development.

The land that Streamsong Resort now sits on was once part of Florida’s “Bone Valley,” known for prehistoric fossils. The site was owned by the Mosaic Company, a major phosphate supplier, and used for strip mining. In 2012, company executives saw the potential of the land’s unique contours and transformed it into a golf resort that blends industrial history with natural beauty, reminiscent of Scotland’s and Ireland’s coastal links courses.

The Red Course at Streamsong, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, offers players a challenging 18-hole masterpiece with dramatic landforms and strategic design. The Blue Course, designed by Tom Doak, features a minimalist approach emphasizing natural contours, wide fairways, irregular bunkers, and undulating greens. The Black Course, designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, is a par-73 championship course with dramatic elevation changes, bomb crater bunkers, and expansive greens.

In addition to the existing courses, Streamsong opened the innovative Chain short course in 2023, designed by Coore & Crenshaw. The course features 19 holes ranging from 90 to 240 yards and offers a unique challenge for players of varying skill levels. Streamsong is also developing a fifth course designed by David McLay Kidd, expected to be the longest course at the resort and taking advantage of the area’s unique wind conditions.

Aside from golf, Streamsong Resort offers luxurious lodging at the Streamsong Lodge, featuring restaurants, a spa, rooftop lounge, fitness center, and lakeside pool. The Clubhouse offers additional accommodations, a golf shop, and a steakhouse-themed restaurant. Non-golfers can enjoy guided bass fishing, hiking trails, bird watching, and sporting clays, making Streamsong a perfect destination for all types of travelers.

Ranked among the best golf courses in the U.S., Streamsong Resort continues to attract players from around the world with its innovative design and sustainable land use. By transforming an industrial site into an extraordinary golfing destination, Streamsong is redefining a golf break in Florida. With its upcoming fifth course promising even more excitement, this resort is a must-visit for golf enthusiasts looking for a unique and unforgettable experience.
