The PGA Tour has recently announced its nominees for two major end-of-the-season awards, with Scottie Scheffler leading the ballot for PGA Tour Player of the Year. Scottie Scheffler, the World No. 1, won seven of his 19 starts in the 2024 season, including prestigious victories at the Masters, Players, RBC Heritage, the Memorial, and Tour Championship. Additionally, he also clinched a gold medal at the Olympics. Scheffler is aiming to become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to win the Jack Nicklaus Award three consecutive years.
In the race for PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, emerging talent Nick Dunlap is the front-runner for the prestigious award. The 20-year-old golfer had an impressive season, winning twice including a notable victory at The American Express when he was an amateur, an achievement that hadn’t been seen since Phil Mickelson in 1991. Dunlap went on to secure his PGA Tour membership and later, as a professional, clinched another victory at the Barracuda Championship, making history as the first player to win as both an amateur and a professional in the same season.
Joining Nick Dunlap as nominees for the Rookie of the Year award are Max Greyserman, Jake Knapp, and Matthieu Pavon. Greyserman had three runner-up finishes in 26 starts, Knapp claimed victory at the Mexico Open at Vidanta, and Pavon emerged victorious at the Farmers Insurance Open. Notably, Pavon also finished 17th in the FedEx Cup standings and was the only rookie to qualify for the Tour Championship in the 2024 season.
Scheffler’s outstanding performance in the 2024 season, which saw him secure seven wins, has made him the betting favorite for PGA Tour Player of the Year over other nominees Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy. In comparison, Schauffele clinched the first two major titles of his career by winning the PGA Championship and Open Championship, while McIlroy secured wins at the Zurich Classic and Truist Championship. McIlroy, a three-time recipient of the award in the past, is looking to add another honor to his impressive career.
Both the Jack Nicklaus Award (Player of the Year) and the Arnold Palmer Award (Rookie of the Year) are voted on by Tour players who competed in a minimum of 15 events during the season. The voting process is set to close soon, with the winners set to be announced by the end of the year. With the exceptional performances seen throughout the 2024 season, golf fans are eagerly anticipating the outcome of these highly coveted awards that honor the best talent in the sport.
