The first round of the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club saw an impressive display of birdies, with players like Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa posting low scores. Adam Scott continued his streak of solid performances with a 5-under 66, expressing surprise at the low scoring conditions on the course.

Despite expectations of a tougher setup at East Lake, players were able to take advantage of favorable conditions to score well. Theegala finished his round with five birdies in his final six holes, while Morikawa started the back nine with six consecutive birdies, his longest streak as a pro.

Wyndham Clark also made a strong comeback after a slow start, making an eagle and six birdies to finish with a 67. Justin Thomas, who began the day 10 shots behind, managed to card seven birdies, including the final two holes, to shoot a 5-under 66.

The players noted that the course conditions, particularly the firm greens, allowed for aggressive shotmaking and scoring opportunities. Thomas commented on the improved holding capacity of the greens, speculating that additional water may have been applied.

The first round of the Tour Championship set the stage for an exciting weekend of golf, with top players like Scott, Morikawa, and Thomas showcasing their skills on the challenging East Lake course. As the tournament progresses, fans can expect to see more birdies and low scores from the talented field of competitors.
