Sergio García recently visited Terras da Comporta in Portugal to check on the progress of the Torre Course, a project he has been eagerly working on. The course is set to open next summer and will be the first major course for which García has had full design responsibility. This visit allowed García to meet with his design team and see the course in person.
The Torre Course will transform Terras da Comporta into a 36-hole venue, following the success of The Dunas Course designed by David McLay-Kidd. Many key figures in the Portuguese golf industry, as well as senior management personnel from Vanguard Properties, the developer of Terras da Comporta, were present to see the latest updates and hear from García and his team.
García expressed his excitement at seeing the progress that has been made on the Torre Course and how the course is coming to life. He believes that when the course opens, it will be one of the best 36-hole venues in Europe. The inspiration for the Torre Course came from Real Club Valderrama, García’s favorite course, and will feature generous fairways, small greens, and measure 6,575 meters from the back tees.
Rodrigo Ulrich, the director of golf at Terras da Comporta, also expressed confidence in The Torre Course being something special upon completion. The venue plans to welcome media and tour operators for previews in the spring before opening to the general public next summer. In addition to the golf courses, Terras da Comporta will offer various lifestyle and sporting facilities such as tennis, padel, pickleball, and horse riding.
Terras da Comporta is located just one hour south of Lisbon and will include plots for hotels, tourist attractions, and residential condominiums. It aims to be a unique destination in Portuguese golf, thanks to its stunning location and the quality of The Dunas Course. The project is shaping up to be a standout in the European golf scene, attracting attention from golf enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
