Golf Recap: Paynesville Dominates Central Minnesota Championships – West Central Tribune

Paynesville Dominates in Central Minnesota Conference Golf Championships

The Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) Championships took place on Monday at Lynx National Golf Course, showcasing impressive performances from the Paynesville boys’ and girls’ golf teams. Both teams secured victory in their respective divisions, signaling a strong season for the Paynesville golfing programs.

Boys’ Championship: Team and Individual Highlights

The Paynesville boys made a mark with an impressive team score of 338. This solid performance not only secured them the championship title but also positioned them well ahead of their closest competitors. The Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (ACGC) boys team finished in second place, scoring a respectable 350, while Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa claimed fourth with a score of 361.

Leading the field, Royalton’s Zach Schraut clinched the medalist honors with a score of 75, showcasing exceptional skill and focus throughout the tournament. ACGC’s Bode Brekke trailed close behind, finishing second with a score of 78. Key performances from Paynesville included Dylan Christensen, who finished third with an 82, and Prestan Lilleberg from ACGC, who secured fourth with an 83.

Top Finishers and Scores

The final standings for the boys’ division were as follows:

  1. Paynesville – 338
  2. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City – 350
  3. Kimball – 359
  4. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa – 361
  5. Royalton – 368

This strong showing from the Paynesville boys further cements their reputation as a powerhouse in CMC golf.

Girls’ Championship: A Strong Performance from Paynesville

On the girls’ side, the Paynesville girls’ team also delivered a stellar performance, shooting a score of 290. This commanding total led them to victory over the second-place Osakis team, which finished with a score of 330. The competition format allowed each team to utilize the top three individual scores to calculate the overall team score, which further emphasizes the importance of teamwork and consistency in performance.

Individual accolades went to Brooke Brekke from ACGC, who emerged as the medalist with an impressive 82. Paynesville’s Peyton Roeske and Osakis’ Leah Maddock tied for second place, each scoring 89, demonstrating the competitive nature of the event. The top five finishers included ACGC’s Laila Zaeska, finishing fourth with a score of 94, and Paynesville’s Bria Larson in fifth with a 99.

Girls’ Standings and Top Performers

The final results for the girls’ championship were:

  1. Paynesville – 290
  2. Osakis – 330
  3. Kimball – 352

The success of both the boys’ and girls’ teams showcases the talent and preparation within the Paynesville golf program and sets a positive tone for the future competitions.

Mound-Westonka Invitational Highlights

In addition to the CMC Championships, the Mound-Westonka Invitational at Burl Oaks Golf Club in Minnetrista featured remarkable performances. The Minnetonka boys’ golf team narrowly claimed victory with a score of 307, edging out Eden Prairie by a single stroke. This close finish adds excitement to the landscape of high school golf in Minnesota.

Litchfield’s golf team faced challenges in the 14-team field, finishing 13th with a score of 365. Individual performances were also noteworthy, with Russell Ylitalo from Buffalo and Wyatt Hawkins from Minnetonka tying for medalist honors, each shooting a 73.

The final team standings were as follows:

Individual Highlights from Litchfield

For Litchfield, Ty Olson was the standout performer, finishing with a score of 88, placing him tied for 52nd among the competitors. Other notable scores from Litchfield include Judah Allen and Carstan Milender, both with scores of 89. While the team faced challenges, every outing serves as a learning experience and opportunity for growth.
