In recognition of his charitable contributions and conduct over his 20-year career, Snedeker has been awarded the Payne Stewart Award for exemplifying values such as character, charity, and sportsmanship. This award is given annually by the PGA Tour since 2000 to players who demonstrate these qualities.
A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Snedeker, 43, is the 27th winner of the Payne Stewart Award. He will be honored during a live televised ceremony at the Southern Exchange in Atlanta on August 27, the week of the Tour Championship. This award holds special significance for Snedeker as Payne Stewart was his favorite golfer growing up, and he feels privileged to have his name on the trophy.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan praised Snedeker for using his platform to better the lives of families in Tennessee. The Southern Company, a presenting sponsor of the award, provides a $500,000 grant, of which $300,000 is designated for a charity chosen by the recipient. Snedeker has selected the Snedeker Foundation, which supports a variety of social and athletic programs in his home state.
The primary charity program supported by the Snedeker Foundation is Our Kids, a Nashville-based nonprofit that assists children who are victims of sexual abuse through crisis counseling, research, education, and training. The foundation also collaborates with the Tennessee Golf Foundation and The First Tee of Tennessee to support junior golfers, disadvantaged youth, and organize affordable tournaments like the Sneds Tour.
In addition to his charitable work, Snedeker has won nine PGA Tour titles and was named the Rookie of the Year in 2007. He has made a significant impact through initiatives to promote golf and support children in need in Tennessee. With the help of Simmons Bank, Snedeker hosts the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation, a Korn Ferry Tour event that has raised over $1 million for area charities and was recognized as the Tournament of the Year in 2022. Snedeker’s dedication to his community and philanthropic efforts have earned him the respect of his peers and fans alike.
