Hewson wins second LET title at Swiss Ladies Open

Hertfordshire’s Alice Hewson secured her second Ladies European Tour victory by edging out India’s Tvesa Malik in a thrilling playoff at the Swiss Ladies Open. Both players finished the tournament tied on 11-under par after a dramatic final round where Hewson carded a 6-under 65. The 26-year-old managed to clinch the win with a birdie on the first playoff hole, marking her first victory since the South African Women’s Open in 2020.

The playoff was the culmination of a tense round at Golfpark Holzhäusern, with 23 players within three shots of the lead with nine holes to play. Hewson, who was three shots behind Fatima Fernandez Cano at the start of the day, struggled on the front nine before finding her groove and birdying the 12th and 15th on the back nine. A spectacular eagle from a bunker on the 17th followed by a birdie on the 18th helped her secure the clubhouse lead.

Malik put up a strong fight, matching Hewson with an eagle on the 17th and a birdie on the 18th to force the playoff. However, she was unable to match Hewson’s birdie in the playoff, ultimately settling for a well-deserved second place finish. Fernandez Cano, the overnight leader, missed out on the playoff after failing to convert a chip on the 18th hole, finishing tied for third with Lauren Walsh on 10-under par.

Reflecting on her victory, Hewson expressed her satisfaction with her patient and resilient performance throughout the day. She mentioned her focus on giving herself opportunities and staying calm under pressure, ultimately leading her to victory. Hewson also highlighted the journey she has been on since winning her first LET title four years ago, mentioning the challenges she faced along the way and the people who supported her.

Malik’s runner-up finish marked her best result on the LET tour and earned her a spot in the upcoming Aramco Team Series – London event. Fernandez Cano, despite leading for most of the tournament, had to settle for a share of third place with Walsh after failing to make the playoff. The Swiss Ladies Open provided a thrilling conclusion with multiple players contending for the title until the final holes, showcasing the competitive nature of women’s golf on the LET.

Overall, the Swiss Ladies Open was a testament to the talent and determination of the players on the Ladies European Tour. Hewson’s victory and Malik’s strong performance demonstrated the high level of competition on the tour, setting the stage for more exciting events in the future. With players from around the world competing at such a high level, the LET continues to grow in popularity and attract a global audience of golf fans. Congratulations to Alice Hewson on her impressive win and to all the players who showcased their skills at the Swiss Ladies Open.
