The Links at Audubon Golf Course in Memphis is set to reopen to the public on August 1, marking a significant milestone for the local golf community. The reopening event was attended by notable speakers such as Mayor Paul Young, Memphis Parks director Nick Walker, renowned golf course architect Bill Bergin, and PGA course professional Bruno Strzalka. Mayor Young highlighted the course’s role in promoting youth engagement in golf through partnerships with organizations like First Tee of West Tennessee, projecting over 40,000 rounds to be played within the next 11 months. He also announced plans for a new clubhouse that will serve as the home base for First Tee after renovations are completed.

The reopening event concluded with children from First Tee teeing off at the driving range for the first official shots on the renovated course. Bergin described the construction process as “building a new course on top of an existing one”, emphasizing Audubon as an ideal location for the University of Memphis golf teams to practice due to its central proximity to campus and challenging course layout. The course’s natural beauty, with rolling hills and tree-lined fairways, presented a challenge to maintain while ensuring playability and beginner-friendliness.

The redesigned first hole at Audubon now combines elements of the previous first two holes, encouraging golfers to be more aggressive in their drives from the start. A new six-hole course has also been added for beginners to learn and practice the game. Bergin noted that while returning players may feel a sense of familiarity, they will ultimately experience the course as completely new. Green fees at Audubon are $35 on weekdays and $45 on weekends, according to the course’s website.

The course has been a focal point of the Memphis golf community, with its redesign aimed at providing both seasoned players and beginners with a challenging yet enjoyable experience. The partnership with First Tee of West Tennessee highlights the course’s commitment to supporting youth golf initiatives and fostering a new generation of players.

The media preview event showcased the new amenities and enhancements at Audubon, including updated putting greens, tee boxes, and a renovated clubhouse. Mayor Young and Director Walker tried out the new facilities and unveiled the partnership with First Tee, showcasing the course’s dedication to community engagement and youth development. The course’s central location and natural surroundings make it a popular choice for local golfers looking for a challenging and picturesque playing experience.

Overall, the reopening of The Links at Audubon Golf Course represents a new chapter in the history of the course, with a focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and community engagement. The redesigned layout and amenities are designed to appeal to a wide range of players, from beginners to seasoned pros. With plans for continued improvements and partnerships with organizations like First Tee, Audubon is poised to become a premier destination for golf enthusiasts in the Memphis area.
