Twelve PGA of America Golf Professionals made an impressive showing at the 84th KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, with Jason Caron emerging as one of the standout performers. Caron, the PGA Head Golf Professional at Mill River Club in Oyster Bay, New York, cemented his success by earning the title of Low Senior PGA of America Golf Professional after finishing in a tie for fourth place. In addition to a prize money of $154,000, Caron also won new appliances for his kitchen.
Caron continued his momentum at the 2024 Simmons Bank Championship, where he posted a stellar 7-under 65 in the first round held at Pleasant Valley Country Club. This strong performance placed him just three shots behind the first-round leader with 36 holes remaining in the tournament. Currently tied for third place alongside Retief Goosen and Thomas Bjorn, Caron showcased his skills with five birdies in the front nine and two more on the back, all while avoiding any bogeys. He closed out his round with five consecutive pars.
Having competed in 65 PGA Tour events and making 21 cuts, Caron has accrued career earnings of $324,300 on the tour. Notable victories in his career include the 2012 Connecticut Open as well as the 2017 and 2020 PGA Stroke Play Championship titles. Caron’s golf journey began during his college years at Charleston Southern, and he is supported by his wife, Liz, who was part of two NCAA championship teams at Duke.
Following his recent success, Caron has made a significant leap in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, climbing from No. 53 to No. 35. This advancement positions him well to qualify for the season finale at Phoenix Country Club, where only the top 36 players will compete. As a result of Caron’s rise in the standings, Scott Dunlap, who was previously ranked No. 36, has slipped down the list. At the top of the standings, there has also been a shift, with Steven Alker surpassing Ernie Els to claim the No. 1 spot, followed by Els at No. 2 and Stephen Ames at No. 3.
The success and skill demonstrated by Jason Caron at recent tournaments highlight his prowess as a professional golfer and his potential for future achievements on the Champions tour. With a strong showing at the 2024 Simmons Bank Championship and his rise in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, Caron is proving to be a formidable competitor on the golfing circuit. His experience, dedication, and notable victories set him apart as a standout player, and his journey in the sport is one to watch for fans and fellow golf enthusiasts alike.
