The PGA of America has announced that the captain of the next U.S. Ryder Cup team, competing in September 2025 at Bethpage Black, will be revealed during a press conference at the NASDAQ building in New York. Despite being the speculative favorite, Tiger Woods has turned down the offer to captain the team. Instead, Keegan Bradley is expected to be named as the pick for the captain position. Bradley, who has previous Ryder Cup experience and a love for the event, will bring a unique perspective to the role.

Captains are typically named well in advance of the Ryder Cup, with the Europeans having already announced their winning captain from 2023. Although Woods had expressed interest in the captaincy, he questioned whether he had the time capacity to fulfill the duties given his commitments to the PGA Tour and other roles in the sport. Bradley’s selection as captain will make him the youngest American captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963, adding an intriguing backstory to the upcoming Ryder Cup.

Bradley has been open about feeling snubbed by the Ryder Cup selection process in the past, suggesting a “boys’ club” mentality among some of his peers. With his new role as captain, Bradley will now have a say in choosing the team that will represent the United States at the 2025 Ryder Cup. His ties to Bethpage, where he played college golf not far from the course, add an additional layer of interest to his captaincy.

The 2025 Ryder Cup is set to begin on September 26 at Bethpage Black, with the Europeans entering as the defending champions. However, the Americans have a strong record in recent Ryder Cup matches held in the United States, winning three out of the last four contests. With Bradley at the helm, Team USA will look to reclaim the Ryder Cup and showcase their talent on the international stage. The selection of Bradley as captain represents a new chapter in Ryder Cup history and highlights the diverse range of talent within American golf.
