Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California has announced the full reopening of its Championship Course, now known as the North Course, on June 1. The course underwent a major renovation by architectural team Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, with changes including a new drivable par-4 11th hole, a repositioned green on the par-3 16th, and an extended par-5 18th hole. The layout will host the NCAA Division I Women’s and Men’s Championships in 2025 and 2026.

The North Course now features six sets of tees ranging from 4,500 to 7,500 yards, with other renovations including transitioning irrigation lines, removal of man-made ponds, and reintroduction of natural barrancas with drought-tolerant and native plant species. Hanse stated that the course is now positioned as one of the top venues for championship golf in Southern California, combining natural beauty and strategic design for both everyday play and championship events.

Originally designed by Dick Wilson and opened in 1965, the North Course at Omni La Costa has a rich tournament history, including hosting the PGA Tour’s Mercedes Championship and the LPGA’s Kia Classic. The resort also rebranded its Legends Course to the South Course, with both courses returning to their original names.

In addition to the course renovations, Omni La Costa has also revamped its practice facility with Toptracer technology, as part of a multi-year renovation of the entire resort. Managing Director Craig Martin highlighted the resort’s commitment to being a top U.S. golf destination and providing an elevated experience for members and guests.

The resort’s transformation includes updates to guest rooms, villas, spa, lobby bar, and meeting spaces. The completion of the North Course renovation signals a return to championship glory at Omni La Costa, offering a world-class golf experience for years to come. The resort’s partnership with Gil Hanse and his design team emphasizes their dedication to providing top-notch amenities and facilities for golf enthusiasts.

Photographs of the course and resort, captured by Patrick Koenig, showcase the stunning beauty and world-class facilities at Omni La Costa. With its rich history, championship pedigree, and recent renovations, the resort is poised to attract golfers of all levels and continue to elevate the golf experience in Carlsbad, California. Whether for a casual round with friends or a competitive championship event, Omni La Costa Resort and Spa offers a premier golf destination on the West Coast.
