The LPGA is back in action following the 2024 Solheim Cup, with 11 players set to compete in the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G in Maineville, Ohio. Among the players are three from the winning American side, including Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and Rose Zhang. Despite just five days passing since their Solheim Cup victory, these players are ready to go head-to-head once again. Korda expressed her excitement about the victory and the fun she had with her teammates during the Solheim Cup, but now she is focused on battling her American teammates in LPGA competition.

The field also includes eight Europeans, such as Linn Grant, Georgia Hall, and Charley Hull, who will be competing at the Arnold Palmer-designed TPC River’s Bend. This event marks the third playing of the championship, with the host course being TPC River’s Bend for the first time. The LPGA has only held tournaments at TPC venues on two other occasions, including the recent FM Championship at TPC Boston and the 2023 Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown at TPC Harding Park. Minjee Lee is the defending champion this week, having secured victory over Charley Hull in a playoff last year.

In addition to the main field, there are four sponsor exemptions for the event, including players like Amari Avery, Gianna Clemente, and Gabrielle Woods, who won the Div. II individual NCAA championship last season. Yana Wilson, a former No. 1-ranked player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, is also among the sponsor exemptions. The Kroger Queen City Championship is the first of the nine remaining events on the LPGA’s 2024 schedule, promising exciting competition and skilled performances from the players.

As the players gear up for the tournament, there is a mix of anticipation and focus among the competitors. The quick turnaround from the Solheim Cup to regular LPGA competition adds an element of excitement to the event, with players looking to carry their momentum from the team victory into individual success. The blend of American and European players sets the stage for a diverse and competitive field, with each player eager to showcase their skills on the course. Overall, the Kroger Queen City Championship promises a thrilling display of talent and sportsmanship in a unique setting at TPC River’s Bend.

The tournament format and course layout will present challenges and opportunities for the players, testing their skills and strategic thinking on the golf course. With the prestige of an Arnold Palmer-designed course and the competitive atmosphere of LPGA competition, the Kroger Queen City Championship offers a platform for players to shine and make their mark in the sport. The defending champion, Minjee Lee, will be looking to defend her title against a field of talented contenders, setting the stage for an exciting battle for the top spot on the leaderboard.

The sponsor exemptions add an element of intrigue to the event, providing opportunities for up-and-coming players to compete alongside established professionals. With players like Gabrielle Woods, who has already shown her talent in the NCAA ranks, and Yana Wilson, a former top-ranked junior player, the sponsor exemptions bring fresh faces and new storylines to the competition. This mix of experience and potential adds depth to the field and highlights the evolving landscape of women’s golf as young talents emerge and established players continue to excel.

Overall, the Kroger Queen City Championship is not only a showcase of top-tier women’s golf talent but also a celebration of the sport and its community. The combination of experienced veterans and rising stars competing on a challenging course like TPC River’s Bend creates a dynamic and engaging event for fans and players alike. As the LPGA season continues with this exciting tournament, the stage is set for thrilling competition and memorable moments on the golf course. With players like Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and Minjee Lee leading the way, the Kroger Queen City Championship promises to be a must-watch event for golf fans and enthusiasts alike.
