Australian team Ripper GC led by Cameron Smith emerged victorious in the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship held at Maridoe Golf Club near Dallas, shooting 11 under par to clinch the team title. They were followed by Iron Heads GC and 4Aces, with Legion XIII coming in fourth. Unlike regular events where the lowest score is dropped, all four scores counted in the final round of the Championship. The prize money earned by teams is divided among team members, with each player receiving 10 percent and the team keeping 60 percent.
Ripper GC’s captain, Cameron Smith, was the standout performer for the team, shooting a 4-under 68 in the final round. His teammates Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman, and Matt Jones also contributed with under-par scores. Iron Heads GC, despite being the lowest-ranked team heading into the event, put in a strong performance led by Kevin Na, finishing in second place. Legion XIII, missing their captain Jon Rahm, had Tyrrell Hatton leading the team to a respectable finish.
Branden Grace of Stinger GC, who had a poor regular season, redeemed himself with the lowest round of the day, a 7-under 65. Other notable performances included Sergio Garcia’s 6-under 66 for the Fireballs, and Sam Horsfield’s impressive score on the Majesticks team. However, last year’s champions, Crushers GC, struggled and tied for last place in their pod. Torque, led by Joaquin Niemann, also faced disappointment at the Team Championship.
Richard Bland and Martin Kaymer each shot 2 under for Cleeks, while young talent Matthew Wolff represented Rangegoats Golf Club in the competition. Speculation arose regarding Bubba Watson’s future with LIV Golf following his performance in the event. Brooks Koepka, who had a tough day with a score of 80, raised questions about his engagement in the competition post an early upset. With thrilling performances and unexpected outcomes, the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship showcased the talent and competitiveness of the teams from around the world.
