In just his third PGA Tour start, Matt McCarty emerged victorious at the Black Desert Championship, shooting a final round 67 (-4) to win by three strokes. Graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour as the 2024 champion, McCarty displayed fearlessness as he took down several experienced rivals and multiple-time winners. Leading by two strokes going into Sunday, McCarty briefly gave his competitors a chance to catch up, but sealed the deal with a stunning eagle on the 14th hole. This win secured his spot at three of the four Majors in 2025, with only The Open Championship not currently guaranteed.

After his victory, McCarty expressed his satisfaction with his performance and the past few months, during which he has won four times in his last 10 combined starts on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour. He highlighted the emotional and nerve-wracking experience of competing at the highest level but expressed pride in how he handled himself throughout the tournament. McCarty’s victory on just his third start places him among a select group of players, including Bob Gilder, Seve Ballesteros, and Russell Henley, who secured a PGA Tour win in a minimal number of starts.

McCarty’s win at the Black Desert Championship has earned him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, making him the first player since Jason Gore in 2005 to win on both tours in the season they were promoted. His rapid rise to success is reminiscent of players like Garrick Higgo and Jim Benepe, who also secured victories in a small number of starts. McCarty’s performance at the championship, particularly his eagle on the 14th hole, showcased his skill and composure under pressure, solidifying his status as a rising star in the golf world.

As McCarty reflects on his journey to victory at the Black Desert Championship, he emphasizes the importance of giving himself the opportunity to compete at the highest level and enjoy the experience. His success at the championship has significantly boosted his chances of qualifying outright for future events and has elevated his World Golf Ranking to 47th. McCarty’s ability to handle the pressure and deliver exceptional performances on the course bodes well for his future in professional golf, with fans and experts eagerly anticipating his next steps on the PGA Tour.

In the wake of his impressive victory, McCarty’s name has become synonymous with talent and potential in the world of golf. His resounding win at the Black Desert Championship marks a significant milestone in his career, setting the stage for even greater achievements in the future. As he continues to hone his skills and compete against the best in the world, McCarty’s journey serves as a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and unwavering determination in the pursuit of excellence on the golf course.
