Matteo Manassero is making a strong comeback at the BMW PGA Championship, firing a 9-under 63 to take a three-shot lead over Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel. Manassero had struggled with his game in recent years, focusing on gaining more distance, but he seems to have found his form once again. McIlroy, coming off a tough loss at Royal County Down, also had a strong showing, finishing with a 6-under 66. He eagled the fourth hole and added birdies on the seventh and back nine. Horschel, the 2021 BMW PGA winner, made a remarkable seven birdies in a row on the back nine to finish with a 7-under 65. The leaderboard also includes Matthew Baldwin in fourth place, followed by Antoine Rozner and Thirston Lawrence tied for fifth.
