Nelly Korda extends her dominant streak with sixth win in last seven tournaments

Nelly Korda, at 25 years old, is dominating the LPGA in 2024 with six victories already under her belt this season, including her most recent win at the Mizuho Americas Open. Despite not having her best game, she managed to beat Hannah Green by a stroke at 14 under par. Korda believes that it is important to grind through tough rounds even with less than optimal performances.

With 14 LPGA titles to her name, Korda’s impressive season has put her in rarified air among LPGA legends. She is only the fourth player in history to win at least six times before June, joining the likes of Babe Zaharias, Louise Suggs, and Lorena Ochoa. This historic achievement has solidified her status as one of the top players in the sport.

Korda’s six-win season marks the first time the LPGA has seen such dominance since Inbee Park in 2013. Additionally, she is the first American since Beth Daniel in 1990 to achieve this feat. Her five straight victories earlier in the season tied her with Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam for the longest win streak in LPGA history.

After a tight battle with Green on the final day of the tournament, Korda emerged victorious, showcasing her mental toughness in high-pressure situations. The two players are the only multiple-time winners on the LPGA this season, with Green winning the JM Eagle LA Championship and the HSBC Women’s World Championship earlier in the year.

Heading into the final stretch of the season, Korda’s focus now turns to the upcoming majors, starting with the U.S. Women’s Open at the end of May. She considers this event to be particularly special due to its significance in her career. Korda made her LPGA debut at the U.S. Women’s Open in 2013, and she looks to continue her winning streak in the major tournaments.

Despite the pressure of performing at the highest level, Korda remains focused on taking each shot as it comes and staying grounded during competitions. Her dedication to staying in the moment and maintaining her composure under pressure has been key to her success on the tour. With a strong support system and a winning mentality, Korda is poised to continue her stellar performance in the upcoming major tournaments.
