In a shocking turn of events, World No. 1 Nelly Korda missed the cut at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship after carding a second-round 81, finishing at 6 over for two days. Korda, who looked primed to contend for her seventh title of 2024, struggled from the beginning with four bogeys in the first four holes. The round marked the first time she missed three straight cuts in her LPGA career, tying her highest score of 81. Korda expressed disappointment in her performance, stating that things had not been going her way recently and that she needed to go home and reset.

Unfortunately, Korda was not the only notable name to miss the cut at Sahalee Country Club. Nasa Hataoka, Sei Young Kim, Andrea Lee, Danielle Kang, Bailey Tardy, Angela Stanford, Megan Khang, and Alison Lee all failed to make it to the weekend. Hataoka struggled to recover from an opening-round 77, while former KPMG champion Kim carded rounds of 76-75. Lee, who had previously contended at the U.S. Women’s Open, exited early after shooting 77-74. Kang, Tardy, Stanford, Khang, and Lee all faced challenges on the course, with rounds ranging from 74 to 84.

For Stanford, missing the cut likely marked her last start at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, having played in every edition since 2001. Both Khang and Lee came into the week ranked in the top 20 in the world, hoping for a solid performance to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics. However, they struggled with inconsistent play and ultimately fell short of qualifying. The cut for the championship fell at 5 over, leaving top players like Korda and others out of contention for the title.

Overall, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club proved to be a challenging event for many top players, with surprising outcomes and unexpected performances. The tournament showcased the unpredictable nature of golf and highlighted the importance of consistency and resilience on the course. Despite the disappointment of missing the cut, players like Nelly Korda and others will have to regroup and focus on their next opportunities to bounce back and showcase their skills on the LPGA Tour.

In conclusion, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship delivered exciting and dramatic moments on the course, with unexpected results for several top players. The cut saw notable names exiting early, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who struggled with her performance and missed the weekend. While disappointment may linger for those who fell short, the competitive nature of the tournament emphasized the need for perseverance and determination in the face of challenges. As the LPGA Tour continues, players will have more opportunities to learn and grow from their experiences at Sahalee Country Club and strive for success in future events.
