Nelly Korda’s impressive cut streak threatened despite 10-shot swing

Nelly Korda’s struggle at the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club resulted in a missed cut after she carded a disappointing 80 in the first round. However, she showed her resilience in the second round with an even-par 70, but it wasn’t enough to make the weekend. Despite the turnaround, she fell two strokes short of the cutline at 10 over. This marked the end of an impressive streak for Korda, who had not missed a cut in 17 starts dating back to last June.

Korda’s second round started on a shaky note with an errant drive on the first tee but she managed to recover and string together three consecutive birdies to get inside the cutline. However, she struggled to maintain momentum on the back nine, ultimately falling short of making the cut. The 161-yard par-3 12th hole, where she had a disastrous 10 in the first round, almost proved to be her undoing again before she managed to save a crucial par.

Despite leading the field in strokes gained/putting on Friday, Korda’s inconsistent performance off the tee hindered her chances of making the cut. She only hit 44 percent of fairways over the first two rounds and lost nearly half a stroke in off-the-tee performance compared to her 2024 season average. Despite her struggles, Korda remained optimistic and acknowledged the difficulties posed by the challenging course at Lancaster Country Club.

Korda’s disappointment at missing the cut serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of golf and the importance of consistency in performance. The setback at the U.S. Women’s Open will undoubtedly fuel her determination to bounce back stronger in future tournaments and continue to showcase her talent on the LPGA Tour. As a six-time winner this season, Korda’s resilience and ability to overcome adversity will be key in her quest for further success on the tour.

While the missed cut may have been a setback for Korda, it also serves as a valuable learning experience and an opportunity for her to reassess her game and make necessary adjustments. With her strong work ethic and competitive spirit, Korda is well-positioned to bounce back from this disappointment and continue to establish herself as one of the top players on the LPGA Tour. Her performance at the U.S. Women’s Open, despite falling short of the cut, is a testament to her talent and potential for future success in the sport.

In conclusion, Nelly Korda’s experience at the U.S. Women’s Open highlights the challenges and unpredictability of professional golf. While her missed cut may have been disappointing, it is a testament to her resilience and determination to overcome adversity. As she continues to refine her game and work on areas of improvement, Korda remains a formidable force on the LPGA Tour and a player to watch in future tournaments. The setback at Lancaster Country Club will undoubtedly motivate her to come back stronger and continue her pursuit of excellence in the sport.
