The American Society of Golf Course Architects Foundation is offering a unique opportunity for 16 students to participate in a Design Boot Camp at Erin Hills in Wisconsin this September. The camp will be led by experienced course designers such as Mike Hurdzan, Dana Fry, and Ron Whitten, the trio behind the design of Erin Hills. This prestigious layout has hosted several USGA championships and is highly acclaimed in the golf world.

In addition to the main instructors, past presidents of the ASGCA will also be on hand to share their expertise with students. The camp will focus on designing new golf holes on unused land adjacent to Erin Hills, allowing students to assess natural features and prepare routing and strategy plans. Each foursome of students will work closely with a pair of architects to create a fantasy second 18 at Erin Hills.

While the cost of the Design Boot Camp is $20,000 per person, $15,000 of that amount will qualify as a charitable tax deduction to the ASGCA Foundation. This will support various non-profit organizations including the Clearview Legacy Foundation, the Golf Heritage Society, The British Columbia Golf House, and the Wee One Foundation. The fee includes lodging, a round of golf at Erin Hills, food, beverages, caddies, a special gift, and more.

Participants in the camp will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of golf course design and gain valuable insights from industry experts. The camp will provide a hands-on learning experience as students work alongside experienced architects to create their own golf holes. This is a unique chance for golf enthusiasts to expand their knowledge and pursue their passion for golf course design.

Erin Hills, the host site of the Design Boot Camp, is a world-renowned golf course that has received accolades for its design and layout. Ranked by Golfweek’s Best as No. 5 among all public-access courses in Wisconsin and No. 65 among all modern courses in the U.S., Erin Hills is a challenging and picturesque course that has hosted major championships.

In addition to designing new golf holes, students at the camp will learn about topography, green design, hazard placement, and other key elements of golf course architecture. The camp will provide a comprehensive overview of the design process, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of what goes into creating a world-class golf course.

Overall, the Design Boot Camp at Erin Hills offers a unique and enriching experience for anyone interested in golf course design. With the opportunity to learn from industry experts, work on a real-world design project, and give back to charitable causes, this camp is a valuable investment for those looking to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of golf architecture.
