PGA Tour players looking forward to relaxing and scoring low at the Travelers Championship after tough U.S. Open

The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut has drawn a stacked field of golfers despite the tough week at the previous tournament. With some top players missing, the remaining participants are competing for a hefty $3.6 million check, making it a lucrative event. However, it’s not just about the money as players also appreciate the event for its organization and amenities provided to them, their caddies, and support teams. Xander Schauffele, a past winner of the event, praised Travelers for its excellent arrangements and the relaxing atmosphere it offers after a major tournament like the U.S. Open.

The TPC River Highlands course, known for its shorter length at 6,835 yards, is a favorite among players for enabling low scores. In the past year, the course has seen several rounds of 63 or better, showcasing its playability and potential for birdies. Despite some minor changes made to the course since last year’s tournament, players like Keegan Bradley feel that the alterations will not significantly affect scoring. Instead, they appreciate the balance between challenge and enjoyment that the course provides, making it a fun and exciting venue for both players and spectators.

Collin Morikawa, who played his third professional event at the 2019 Travelers Championship, highlighted the softer greens and favorable conditions for scoring. The soft greens allow players to be more aggressive in their approach shots, resulting in more birdie opportunities. Scottie Scheffler, a two-time Signature Events winner this season, values his caddie Ted Scott’s experience on the TPC River Highlands course. Scott’s success with Bubba Watson at the event gives Scheffler confidence in their decision-making process during the tournament.

The only potential obstacle for players at the Travelers Championship could be the intense heat expected during the event days. With temperatures reaching the mid-to-upper 90s, golfers need to stay hydrated and manage the heat to maintain their performance levels. Despite the heat wave, Scheffler, who hails from Texas, feels comfortable in the warmer conditions, considering them mild compared to his home state’s weather. Overall, players are prepared for the challenges the weather may pose while focusing on their game and aiming for low scores in the tournament.

In conclusion, the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands promises an exciting and competitive event for players and fans alike. With a strong field of participants, the tournament offers the potential for record-breaking performances and thrilling moments on the course. The players’ appreciation for the event’s organization, amenities, and layout reflects the overall positive experience at the Travelers Championship. As the competition unfolds, golf enthusiasts can expect to witness top-tier golf and strategic gameplay at one of the most beloved venues on the PGA Tour.
