Basingstoke Golf Club is embarking on a phased reopening plan following a £15 million development project that began in 2021. The club, which first opened in 1907, has moved to a new site in the village of Dummer and acquired the land previously occupied by Dummer Golf Club. The new 18-hole championship course, designed by Weller Designs, features thrilling and undulating holes with strategically placed water hazards.

Initially, a soft opening of nine holes on the new course is planned for late June, with a full 18 holes expected to be in play by the end of the year. In addition to the golf course, the club will feature a state-of-the-art clubhouse opening in August, along with a new driving range, short-game area, and large putting green. Full practice facilities are scheduled to be open by early Autumn 2025.

The vision for Basingstoke Golf Club is to become one of the premier golf venues in the southeast, building on its rich history and established membership base. The club aims to attract new and younger players to the game while maintaining its core values and standards that have been in place for over 100 years. General Manager David Green expressed excitement about the project and emphasized the focus on creating a top-tier member-focused golf club with exceptional facilities.

Sustainability is a key factor in the development of Basingstoke Golf Club, with two water lagoons providing irrigation for the course. The choice of grass varieties, including fescue and ryegrass, will help minimize maintenance and wear and tear on the course. Course Manager Scott Roberts highlighted the importance of sustainability and water management to ensure the club’s long-term success.

The history of Basingstoke Golf Club dates back to 1907 when it was established as a nine-hole course. Over the years, the club underwent significant developments, including a transition to an 18-hole layout designed by James Braid in 1926. The club’s move to a new location in Dummer in 2021 marks a new chapter in its history, with a modern downland course designed by Weller Designs set to become a highly anticipated destination in the southeast.

For general inquiries, including membership information, interested individuals can reach out to the club via email at [email protected] The club’s commitment to providing outstanding golf experiences and state-of-the-art facilities underscores its dedication to creating a vibrant and thriving golf community. With a focus on sustainability, quality, and member satisfaction, Basingstoke Golf Club is poised to set new standards in the region’s golfing landscape.
