In Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Joe Highsmith secured his first PGA Tour victory at the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. Highsmith’s win was historic as he was the first player since 2016 to win after making the cut on number. While some of the top players like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy opted to take the week off in preparation for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the tournament saw impressive performances from Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler. Spieth, recovering from wrist surgery, and Fowler, absent from leaderboards for some time, opened their weeks with strong rounds of 65 and 64 respectively.

Despite not being a household name, Joe Highsmith’s victory was supported by his experienced caddie, Joe Lacava IV, son of Patrick Cantlay’s caddie and former caddie of Tiger Woods, Joe Lacava III. Highsmith had a challenging path to victory, following an initial good round with a one-over 72 that put him near the cut line. With guidance from his caddie and drawing on past successes and failures, Highsmith shot two 64s on Saturday and Sunday, securing his first PGA Tour win with a five-footer for par on the 72nd hole.

As a result of his victory, Highsmith gained significant exemptions, including an invitation to The Masters just a month away. The PGA Tour will head to Orlando for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in the coming week. Highsmith’s equipment lineup at the tournament included a Titleist GT3 driver, Titleist GT3 3-wood, Titleist T200 and T100 irons, Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedges, a Scotty Cameron 009M Tour Prototype putter, and the 2025 Titleist Pro V1 ball.

Highsmith’s triumph at the Cognizant Classic was a testament to his perseverance and skill, highlighted by his ability to navigate challenging rounds and secure a crucial par on the final hole. With top players opting to sit out the tournament, Highsmith seized the opportunity to showcase his talent and secure his first PGA Tour victory with the support of an experienced caddie.

The upcoming Arnold Palmer Invitational presents Highsmith with another opportunity to build on his success and continue his momentum on the PGA Tour. As he prepares for The Masters with newfound confidence, Highsmith’s victory serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of golf and the potential for underdog triumphs on the tour.

Highsmith’s victory at the Cognizant Classic was a result of his dedication, skill, and strategic partnership with his caddie, Joe Lacava IV. With a strong equipment lineup and a focused mindset, Highsmith was able to overcome challenges and secure his first PGA Tour win, opening doors to prestigious tournaments and exemptions in the future.

As Highsmith basks in the glow of his maiden PGA Tour victory, the golf world eagerly anticipates his future performances and potential to make a mark on the tour. With the support of his caddie and a solid equipment setup, Highsmith has demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level and emerge victorious against formidable competition.
