Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, secured his first victory on any tour in over four years by winning the Asian Tour’s Hong Kong Open by three shots. After shooting an impressive 11-under-par 59 in the third round at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Reed finished with a 66 in the final round to end at 22-under, pulling ahead of New Zealand’s Ben Campbell, the defending champion. Campbell finished his title defense with a 65, while Japan’s Kazuki Higa shot a 63 to claim third place, just one shot behind. Australian Wade Ormsby, who had previously won the event in 2017 and 2020, tied for fourth with Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana.

Despite starting the day three shots ahead, Reed quickly dispelled any concerns about his ability to shoot another low round after his stellar performance in the third round. He birdied four holes in a row from the third hole, building a six-shot lead. By the time he reached the turn, Reed had a commanding seven-shot advantage, putting him in complete control of the tournament. Although he dropped shots on the 15th and 18th holes while his closest competitors were making birdies, the outcome was never in doubt.

Speaking after his victory, Reed expressed his love for the golf course and his familiarity with it, stating that he enjoys the challenge of strategizing shots and being creative. He identified the difficulty of closing out the tournament as the biggest challenge but emphasized how much it meant to him to perform well over the weekend. Reed also mentioned his plans to compete in the final two events of the Asian Tour season – the International Series Qatar and the PIF Saudi International in the following weeks.

Reed’s victory at the Hong Kong Open marks a significant milestone in his career, ending a drought of over four years without a win on any tour. The 34-year-old Texan showcased his skill and resilience by maintaining his lead throughout the event and overcoming challenges from his competitors. His performance, particularly shooting a 59 in the third round, demonstrated his ability to excel under pressure and deliver exceptional results when it mattered most.

The win at the Hong Kong Open not only reaffirms Reed’s status as a top-level golfer but also adds to his impressive list of accomplishments, including winning the prestigious Masters tournament in 2018. His victory serves as a testament to his dedication to the sport and his determination to succeed at the highest level. By clinching the title in Hong Kong, Reed has set a strong foundation for the remainder of the season and positioned himself as a contender in future tournaments on the Asian Tour and beyond.

In addition to his on-course success, Reed’s win at the Hong Kong Open also highlights his ability to adapt to different playing conditions and thrive in competitive settings. His experience and expertise in navigating challenging courses and maintaining composure under pressure were evident throughout the tournament. Reed’s victory not only cements his reputation as a formidable competitor but also solidifies his place among the elite players in the world of professional golf.

As Reed looks ahead to the upcoming events on the Asian Tour and beyond, his triumph at the Hong Kong Open will undoubtedly serve as a source of confidence and motivation. The win not only boosts his standing in the world rankings but also reinforces his belief in his abilities to compete at the highest level. With his eye on future success and his sights set on further victories, Reed’s performance at the Hong Kong Open signals the start of a promising chapter in his career and sets the stage for continued excellence in the world of professional golf.
