Review of Callaway Elyte X Fairway Wood

The Callaway Elyte X fairway wood is a part of the new Callaway Elyte range and is touted as one of the most forgiving fairway woods in 2025. The forgiveness of a fairway wood starts with its appearance. The Callaway Elyte X has a stretched, larger profile that instills confidence and a shallower face designed for a high-launching ball flight from the fairway or rough. However, flying the ball down into the wind can be a challenge. The Elyte X is one of three models in the Elyte family, with the X model looking almost identical to the standard Elyte, except for the shallower face.

In terms of technology, the Elyte fairway wood lineup features new additions that surpass the Ai Smoke fairway woods released last year. A 34g tungsten Speed Wave behind the face maximizes ball speed and performance on off-center hits, while the Step Sole design improves turf interaction for a smoother impact. The new Ai10x Face offers 10 times more control points for variable thickness and numerous sweet spots on the face to maintain ball speed on off-center strikes. The Elyte X delivers on its promise with effortless launch and a high, drawing ball flight, even on off-center strikes.

Performance testing on a GCQuad launch monitor revealed an average spin rate of just over 3300rpm and an average carry distance of 252 yards with a 155mph ball speed. The descent angle of 43.7° ensures the ball stops on almost any green, making it a suitable choice for longer par fours or fives. As a +3 handicap golfer, the reviewer preferred the feel and performance of the Elyte X over the Elyte Triple Diamond. The Elyte X offers a softer, more compressed feel compared to the firmer feel of the Triple Diamond, with less volatile performance.

There is little difference in feel or aesthetics between the standard Elyte and Elyte X models, both offering a premium look and feel. If you prefer a high-launching, draw-bias fairway wood, the Elyte X is recommended, while the standard Elyte model provides a slightly flatter flight for extra yards. Ultimately, both models are among the best fairway woods on the market and offer excellent forgiveness and performance for golfers looking to upgrade their top end of the bag. Whether you choose the Elyte X or standard Elyte, you can expect confidence-inspiring looks and reliable performance on the course.
