The Mizuno JPX Hot Metal franchise has gained popularity in the retail market for its strong ball speeds and forgiveness. The brand is now releasing its latest JPX925 Hot Metal iron range, which includes the Hot Metal Pro and Hot Metal High Launch models. Mizuno aims to compete with the best golf irons in the market with this new lineup.

The JPX925 family focuses on maximizing forgiveness, rather than pushing distance output to the limits of USGA regulations. The new technology includes a re-engineered multi-thickness face, variable sole thickness, and a Seamless Cup face. The head shaping has been redesigned to cater to common mishits in golf, such as heel and toe strikes, to improve performance.

In addition to the technological advancements, Mizuno has introduced a ‘Balance Stability Frame’ to improve control and forgiveness in the irons. The brand also incorporates ‘Acoustic Sound Ribs’ to enhance sound and feel, creating a more enjoyable experience for golfers. The new JPX925 Hot Metal irons aim to provide tour-preferred vibration and sound for players.

While the Hot Metal irons may appear visually busy with multiple finishes and design elements, they excel in the playing position. The profile of the irons is top-notch, with a manageable top line and moderate levels of offset. The heightened toe gives the irons a more upright appearance, framing the ball beautifully for a clean address look.

During testing at Saunton Golf Club, the Mizuno JPX925 Hot Metal irons delivered strong distance numbers with a 28˚ 7-iron loft. However, there were some outliers in the data that showcased inconsistencies in spin and ball speed. Despite these outliers, the irons performed well in terms of sound, feel, turf interaction, and workability, offering a pleasurable testing experience.

The JPX925 Hot Metal irons will be available in 4-SW for both left and right-handers, with Nippon NS Pro 950 NEO or UST Recoil Dart ESX shaft options. The irons are priced at $150/£150 per iron, making them a competitive option for mid-low handicappers seeking a yardage boost. Overall, the Mizuno JPX925 Hot Metal irons offer a combination of forgiveness, distance, and feel that will appeal to a wide range of golfers.
