Review of the FootJoy Quantum Golf Shoe

When it comes to golf shoes, there are plenty of marketing claims out there, but FootJoy’s latest creation, the Quantum, promises “Cloud Like Comfort.” This unique phrase caught the attention of many, including Golf Monthly’s reviewer, who was eager to put this claim to the test. Upon trying on the Quantum for the first time, the reviewer immediately felt the incredible cushioning underfoot provided by the SofFoam technology. This cushioning not only offers a comfortable walking experience but also supports the foot during the golf swing, absorbing shock on any surface.

Another standout feature of the Quantum is the Ortholite Impression FitBed, which molds to the shape of the foot over time, providing a customized fit that enhances comfort. While it may take a few rounds for this feature to truly take effect, the more you wear the Quantum, the more comfortable they become. In comparison to other golf shoes tested by the reviewer, including the FootJoy Hyperflex Carbon and FootJoy Pro/SLX Carbon, the Quantum’s insole stands out as one of the best, offering a soft and supportive feel that enhances overall comfort.

Despite the superior comfort offered by the Quantum, there are tradeoffs to consider, particularly in terms of stability. While the shoe is not unstable, it may not provide the same level of stability as other spikeless golf shoes on the market. Additionally, the grip of the Quantum’s outsole, while effective in dry and damp conditions, may not be the grippiest available. Therefore, individuals looking for maximum stability or grip may need to prioritize their needs when selecting a golf shoe.

In terms of aesthetics, the Quantum strikes a balance between a traditional athletic golf shoe and a more casual sneaker style. While FootJoy typically excels in traditional silhouettes, the sneaker style of the Quantum may be a departure from the brand’s comfort zone. The shoe is clean, classic, and smart, with a casual yet stylish look that is suitable for the golf course. However, the reviewer notes that the large ‘FJ’ branding on the rear of the shoe detracts from its overall appearance and suggests that FootJoy could improve the design by removing this unnecessary addition.

Despite some minor aesthetic concerns, the Quantum’s comfort surpasses that of other popular golf shoes on the market. The reviewer notes that even after walking nearly 13,000 steps during a round of golf, there was no aching or discomfort in the Quantum, unlike in some other favorite shoes from this year. In fact, the Quantum surpassed the reviewer’s previous top choice for comfort, Ecco’s LT1, making it a must-try for anyone prioritizing comfort in their golf footwear. Overall, the FootJoy Quantum delivers on its promise of “Cloud Like Comfort” and stands out as a top contender in the golf shoe market.
