Rory McIlroy had a sluggish start during the opening round of the RBC Canadian Open, attributing it to a few glasses of wine he had the night before at his caddie Harry Diamond’s birthday dinner. However, he managed to turn it around and shoot a 66 after starting with nine straight pars. McIlroy mentioned that he had taken some time off before the tournament, attending a friend’s wedding in Italy and spending quality time with family.

Despite not having played the back nine of the course before the tournament, McIlroy was pleased to finish the front nine without a bogey. He found his groove on the back nine, hitting a wedge to four feet for a birdie at the first hole and adding three more birdies to his scorecard. This strong finish helped McIlroy climb up the leaderboard and put himself in contention for his third RBC Canadian Open title.

When asked about the changes made to the course since the last time he played there in 2019, McIlroy mentioned that the layout was now more challenging, with a lot of run-offs and tricky sections on the greens. Despite the adjustments, he was able to adapt and navigate the course effectively to post a solid score in the first round. McIlroy expressed confidence in his ability to compete and potentially win the tournament.

The RBC Canadian Open holds significance for McIlroy, as he had previously won the event by a significant margin in 2019. With his past success at the tournament and his improved form in the first round, McIlroy is poised to make a strong run for another victory. His experience and skill on the golf course give him an advantage over the competition, and he is determined to perform at his best in the upcoming rounds of the tournament.

McIlroy’s performance in the first round of the RBC Canadian Open demonstrates his ability to overcome challenges and deliver excellent results under pressure. His strategic approach to the course and mental resilience were key factors in his success, as he was able to bounce back from a slow start and finish strongly. With his sights set on winning his third RBC Canadian Open title, McIlroy is ready to showcase his talent and compete with the best players in the tournament.

Overall, Rory McIlroy’s performance in the first round of the RBC Canadian Open reflects his determination, skill, and adaptability as a professional golfer. Despite facing obstacles such as fatigue and unfamiliarity with the course, McIlroy was able to rise to the occasion and deliver a stellar performance. As he continues to compete in the tournament, McIlroy will look to build on his strong start and maintain his momentum to secure another victory at the RBC Canadian Open.
