Sand Valley in Wisconsin is known for its stunning golf courses, with the latest addition being Sedge Valley, a heathland-inspired design. Now, the resort has announced a sixth course in the works called The Commons, a 12-hole layout influenced by common ground courses in the U.K. This new project, set to open in 2026, will be the first solo design by Jim Craig, who has worked on projects such as Friar’s Head and Bandon Trails alongside Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

The Commons will not double as grazing ground for livestock like many common ground courses in the U.K., but it will be used for community events. Stretching around 4,000 yards, the course will feature several holes along Lake Luna, including a par-3 with a Redan green. Situated on what used to be the driving range between the main resort and the new Sedge Valley neighborhood, The Commons offers a unique and scenic playing experience for golf enthusiasts.

Sand Valley has been on a streak of new course announcements, with The Commons marking the third consecutive year of expansion. Prior to Sedge Valley, the resort introduced the Lido, a replica of a famed lost Long Island course. With existing courses like Sand Valley, Mammoth Dunes, and the Sandbox par-3 course, The Commons adds another exciting option for visitors looking to experience top-notch golf in a picturesque setting.

Founders Michael and Chris Keiser are not only expanding at Sand Valley but also venturing into new resort destinations such as Rodeo Dunes in Colorado and Wild Spring Dunes in Texas. The Keiser brothers’ commitment to creating exceptional golf experiences in captivating locations is evident in the quality and variety of courses being developed under the Sand Valley brand. Golfers can expect unique challenges and breathtaking views at each destination.

The collaboration between Jim Craig and the Keiser brothers on The Commons highlights a dedication to honoring the tradition and style of British golf while infusing the course with innovative design elements. By tapping into the rich history of common ground courses, The Commons promises to offer a one-of-a-kind golfing experience that pays homage to its roots while embracing modern sensibilities. Golfers can look forward to a course that challenges and delights players of all skill levels.

As The Commons nears completion, excitement is building among golf enthusiasts eager to explore this new addition to the Sand Valley lineup. The course’s proximity to Lake Luna and its strategic layout suggest a challenging yet enjoyable round for players seeking a unique golfing adventure. With a commitment to community events and a focus on creating memorable experiences, The Commons is poised to become a must-visit destination for golfers seeking something special in the world of golf course design.

In 2026, The Commons will officially open its doors to players looking to test their skills on this innovative 12-hole layout. With its distinctive features and ties to British golf tradition, The Commons is set to make a lasting impression on the golfing world. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a casual player, this new course at Sand Valley promises to deliver an exceptional golfing experience that combines history, strategy, and natural beauty in a way that only the best courses can.
