World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler faced some physical challenges during the opening round of a tournament as he was seen touching his lower back after hitting a shot. Despite this, he managed to finish with a 1-under 71, posting three birdies and two bogeys. Scheffler downplayed any potential injury, stating that his back was sore and he had trouble loosening it up. He attributed the discomfort to possibly hitting too many balls the day before.

Scheffler mentioned that he woke up with a sore back and struggled to maintain his usual swing motion throughout the round. He specifically felt the strain on the 17th hole when attempting a challenging shot that required a significant turn. However, he reassured reporters that he would adhere to his normal recovery routine, including applying ice to the affected area.

Playing alongside Scheffler was Xander Schauffele, who observed his counterpart’s stiffness and joked that it might be a concern for the competition rather than Scheffler himself. Despite the physical discomfort, Scheffler’s performance was commendable, especially considering his standing as the FedEx Cup leader. Schauffele shot a 69, finishing two strokes ahead of Scheffler but acknowledging the potential impact of Scheffler’s ailments on the rest of the field.

Scheffler, aiming to secure his first FedEx Cup victory, remained optimistic about his condition moving forward. He emphasized that the discomfort was manageable and expressed confidence in his ability to rebound for the following rounds. Both Scheffler and Schauffele highlighted the competitive nature of professional golf and the need to adapt to physical challenges that may arise during tournaments.

As Scheffler continues to compete at a high level, his ability to overcome minor setbacks like back soreness demonstrates his resilience and determination as a top-ranked golfer. By prioritizing his recovery routine and maintaining a positive attitude, Scheffler sets an example for aspiring players on how to navigate physical obstacles while pursuing success on the PGA Tour. With the FedEx Cup title within reach, Scheffler’s performance under pressure will be closely monitored by fans and competitors alike.
