Scottie Scheffler continues to defy odds with historic performance at the Houston Open

Scottie Scheffler is poised to make history as the betting favorite in Texas this week at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. His outright odds are as low as +250 to win the tournament, a combination of his outstanding form and his past success at Memorial Park. The current No. 1 player in the world has finished 32nd, second, and ninth in his three starts at the course.

According to data from RickRunGood.com, Scheffler’s +250 odds are the lowest pre-tournament going back to 2019. The closest any player has come to Scheffler’s odds was Jon Rahm last year at the Mexico Open, with a cumulative +380. Leading up to that tournament, Rahm had won four times, including the Masters. Comparing Scheffler’s odds to other players in non-Tour Championship events going back to 2019, he stands out as a clear favorite.

There have been comparisons made between Scheffler’s strokes gained run over the past year and Tiger Woods’ ball-striking statistics. Woods closed the 2007 season by winning five of his last six starts, finishing second in the one he didn’t win. In 2008, he won his first three starts and was a favorite heading into the Masters at +200. Currently, Scheffler is +450 to win the Masters, highlighting his impressive performance and potential for success.

When it comes to golf history, betting can provide a unique perspective that strokes gained statistics may not capture. While Scheffler’s play is comparable to some of the all-time greats, the bookmakers still hold Woods’ record of success in high regard. Keith Stewart, a PGA professional and betting contributor, emphasizes the importance of understanding golf betting and provides insights through his newsletter and content on various platforms.

As Scheffler continues to showcase his talent on the course, fans and bettors alike can appreciate the level of performance he is achieving. With his low odds and strong play, he is setting himself up for success in the upcoming tournaments. While comparisons to players like Woods are inevitable, Scheffler’s unique style and skills are making him a standout in the golf world. Bettors will be keeping a close eye on his performance and potential to make history in Texas and beyond.
