Scottie Scheffler dismisses notion of FedEx Cup being a season-long race

Scottie Scheffler has had a phenomenal season, winning the Masters, five other PGA Tour events, and the Olympic gold medal. Leading the FedEx Cup standings heading into the playoffs, Scheffler is determined to win the FedEx Cup title, despite failing to do so in previous years when entering the Tour Championship ranked first. While he aims to win the FedEx Cup, he emphasizes that it’s more of a season-long race to get to the Tour Championship and then evolves into something else.

As the clear leader in the points standings, Scheffler has a significant advantage over his closest competitor, Xander Schauffele. With a strong performance in the upcoming events, including the BMW Championship, Scheffler is on track to maintain his lead through the playoffs. However, he acknowledges that the true test will come at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where the Tour Championship will ultimately determine the FedEx Cup winner.

Despite the emphasis on the season-long race, Scheffler questions the concept of it all coming down to one tournament at East Lake. He highlights the importance of striking a balance between being a good TV product and maintaining the integrity of a season-long race. Collin Morikawa, ranked fourth behind Scheffler, shares similar sentiments about the staggered-start scoring format of the Tour Championship, recognizing the unpredictability and variability in golf competitions.

Scheffler, while acknowledging past struggles at East Lake, remains optimistic about potential changes in his performance. He humorously mentions the course renovation as possibly giving him “new vibes” but ultimately stresses the importance of making more birdies to secure victory. As the season progresses to the playoffs, Scheffler and other top competitors are focused on delivering their best performances to contend for the FedEx Cup title.

As the playoffs unfold, the competition intensifies, and players are aware of the challenges and uncertainties that come with golf tournaments. Despite reservations about the format and structure of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the top players, including Scheffler and Morikawa, are prepared to face the tough competition and showcase their skills at the Tour Championship. With the season-long race nearing its climax, the excitement and anticipation for the final showdown at East Lake Golf Club continue to build.
