Scottie Scheffler makes history by winning 2024 Travelers Championship, matching Tiger Woods with six wins in a season

Scottie Scheffler dominated the 2024 Travelers Championship in Connecticut, despite windy conditions on Sunday. He shot a 65 to finish at 22 under, securing his sixth win of the season. Scheffler’s performance was reminiscent of Tiger Woods’ dominance in 2009, making him the first player to win six times in a season since Woods. The leaderboard featured other big names like Tony Finau, Tom Kim, Patrick Cantlay, and Justin Thomas, who were all in contention till the end.

Tom Hoge made a late surge with six birdies on the back nine and three in his final four holes to finish at 20 under, tying for third with Sungjae Im. Kim, who was aiming to be a wire-to-wire winner at the Travelers Championship, fell short despite a strong performance. He made a crucial par putt on the 17th hole but ultimately lost to Scheffler, finishing second with his best result of the year.

Scheffler’s victory was highlighted by three consecutive birdies on the back nine, solidifying his lead and ultimately clinching the title. Despite facing potential distractions, including protesters on the course, Scheffler maintained his composure and finished strong. Kim forced a playoff with a birdie on the 18th hole but ultimately fell short with a bogey on the first playoff hole.

Hoge acknowledged the difficulty of catching up to Scheffler, who has been in top form throughout the season. Scheffler’s impressive run of first or second-place finishes in eight of his last 10 starts is a testament to his consistency and skill. His success in winning six Tour titles before July is a rare feat, with Arnold Palmer being the last player to achieve this in 1962.

Other top finishers at the Travelers Championship included Finau, Thomas, Cantlay, and Bhatia, who all tied for fifth at 18 under. The tournament showcased the depth of talent on the PGA Tour, with multiple players contending for the title till the final holes. Scheffler’s dominance and ability to minimize mistakes in challenging conditions set him apart from the competition, solidifying his status as one of the top players on the tour.

Overall, the 2024 Travelers Championship was a thrilling event with high drama and exceptional performances from top players. Scheffler’s victory was a testament to his skill, composure, and consistency, establishing him as a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour. The tournament showcased the competitive nature of professional golf and the resilience required to succeed at the highest level. With the season progressing, all eyes will be on Scheffler as he continues his quest for further success on the tour.
