McKINNEY, Texas — The 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson saw 16-year-old Kris Kim make history by becoming the fifth-youngest player in PGA Tour history to make the cut. This also made him the youngest player to achieve this at the Byron Nelson tournament, surpassing hometown favorite Jordan Spieth who missed the cut on the same day. Kim continued his strong play on Saturday, shooting 1-under 70 to move to 8-under for the tournament. Despite a bogey at the start, he managed to score four birdies in the next eight holes, showcasing his skills on the course.

Kim highlighted the strength of his short game during the tournament and mentioned relying on it when necessary, especially on days when his iron shots were off. His family, including his parents and younger brother, supported him during the event, with his mother, former LPGA player Ji-Hyun Suh, particularly invested in his performance. Kim enjoyed the enthusiastic crowd support during his rounds, signing autographs and interacting with fans after his play concluded.

The young golfer reflected on his experience at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, mentioning that his main goal was to make the cut for the tournament. With the pressure of achieving this goal lifted, Kim felt more at ease going into the final round. He expressed gratitude for being able to share this experience with his family, despite missing some school due to the event. When asked about his schoolwork during the week, Kim admitted he hadn’t done any homework, showcasing his focus on the tournament.

For golf enthusiasts looking to improve their game, the article also features a section on the best equipment to buy in 2024, including drivers, irons, putters, and golf balls. This information can help readers make informed decisions when upgrading their golf gear for optimal performance on the course. The combination of Kim’s impressive tournament performance and the equipment recommendations offers valuable insights for players looking to enhance their skills and equipment choices for future games.
