David Skinns made headlines on Thursday at the Sanderson Farms Championship by firing an impressive round of 60, taking a three-shot lead after the first round. The course playing to a par-72 made Skinns’ feat even more impressive, as he had to go 12 under to achieve his score. His performance included 12 birdies and six pars, bringing him close to a historic 13-under 59, which only four players have achieved in PGA Tour history. Despite narrowly missing out on the sub-60 score, Skinns expressed disappointment but also highlighted the mental control and attacking mindset he maintained throughout the round.

On his final hole, Skinns had a chance to make history by sinking a nine-foot putt for a 59. Unfortunately, the putt slid by, leaving Skinns with a 60 for the round. Despite his disappointment, Skinns reflected on his performance, acknowledging that any golfer would be pleased with a round of 60. He emphasized the unexpected moments of success throughout the round and his ability to take advantage of opportunities when they arose. Although he wished he could redo his final putt, Skinns remained satisfied with his overall performance and mental approach under pressure.

Looking ahead to the second round, Skinns aims to capture his first-career PGA Tour victory after his strong start at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He praised his ability to stay aggressive and focused throughout the round, even as the pressure increased towards the end. With his shot at 59 now behind him, Skinns is focused on maintaining his momentum and continuing to play at a high level in the tournament. He will tee off for the second round with the goal of building on his success from the opening round.

As the managing producer for GOLF.com, Kevin Cunningham oversees content creation and publishing for the brand, reaching over 1.4 million subscribers each month. Cunningham highlighted Skinns’ remarkable performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship and emphasized the mental strength and strategic approach that contributed to his success. Skinns’ ability to stay focused and aggressive in challenging moments showcased his determination to compete at the highest level on the PGA Tour. Despite falling short of a historic 59, Skinns’ performance garnered attention and praise from golf enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Skinns’ round of 60 at the Sanderson Farms Championship showcased his exceptional talent and potential to contend for his first PGA Tour victory. His display of skill and mental fortitude on the course highlighted his ability to handle pressure and seize opportunities when they arise. As Skinns prepares for the next rounds of the tournament, he remains determined to maintain his competitive edge and strive for success on the PGA Tour. With his impressive start at the championship, Skinns has established himself as a player to watch in the upcoming rounds as he vies for a podium finish and a potential breakthrough victory.
