The Player Impact Program has recently announced the results for the year, with Tiger Woods emerging as the top earner once again. The program, introduced in 2020-21, aims to reward players who have a significant impact on the PGA Tour as a business. Woods secured the $10 million first prize by topping the 10-man chart based on criteria such as Internet searches, earned media, TV sponsor exposure, general population, and golf fan awareness.

Despite making just five appearances on the PGA Tour in 2024, Woods’ status in the game helped him secure the top spot on the PIP list. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler followed closely in second place, while former PIP winner Rory McIlroy came in third. Woods’ PIP victory marks the third time in four years that he has taken home the top prize, bringing his total earnings from the program to around $50 million.

Scheffler had a standout year in 2024, claiming nine titles, including a Masters win and an Olympic gold medal. Despite facing a bizarre incident at the PGA Championship where he was arrested on a traffic violation (charges were later dropped), Scheffler’s dominance on the course earned him the title of PGA Tour Player of the Year. McIlroy, who won the PIP in 2023, rounded out the top three this year, taking home $4.5 million from the reduced $50 million purse.

The PIP payout breakdown includes Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, and Wyndham Clark in the top ten list. Each player received varying amounts of prize money based on their impact on the PGA Tour. The PIP considers factors such as tickets, sponsorships, media consumption, and fan engagement to determine the rankings.

The PIP program has become a significant aspect of the PGA Tour, with players competing not only for tournament wins but also for the financial rewards and recognition that come with a high ranking on the list. Woods’ continued success in the program showcases his enduring popularity and influence in the world of golf, despite his limited tournament appearances in recent years. Scheffler and McIlroy’s consistent presence on the PIP list reflects their strong performance and impact on the tour.

As the golfing world continues to evolve, the Player Impact Program provides a unique opportunity for players to be recognized not just for their on-course success but also for their broader influence on the sport. The program’s criteria aim to capture the various ways in which players contribute to the business and entertainment aspects of the PGA Tour, highlighting the importance of engaging with fans and sponsors both on and off the course. With top players like Woods, Scheffler, and McIlroy leading the way, the PIP will continue to be a key factor in shaping the landscape of professional golf.
