The 2024 Paris Olympics saw Tommy Fleetwood claim the silver medal with a par on the 18th hole. Fleetwood was in contention for the top spot throughout the final round, keeping pace with his playing partners Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele on the front nine. As Rahm and Schauffele began to fade, Fleetwood found himself tied for the lead by the 12th hole at 18 under par.

A shocking double-bogey by Rahm on the 14th hole removed him from the competition, while Scottie Scheffler surged ahead with a birdie on the 17th hole to claim the outright lead. Fleetwood managed to birdie the 16th hole and tie Scheffler at 19 under, but a bogey on the 17th dropped him one shot out of the lead. Despite failing to birdie the final hole, Fleetwood’s par secured him the silver medal, as Scheffler claimed the gold by one shot.

This finish was especially gutting for Fleetwood, who has never won a major championship despite finishing in the top 10 eight times, including two runner-up finishes. However, Fleetwood expressed pride and happiness at being an Olympic medalist, stating that he never dreamt of such an achievement. He emphasized the incredible atmosphere of the week and how much he enjoyed being back in contention on a big stage.

Brandel Chamblee offered a searing take on Jon Rahm’s Olympic collapse, highlighting the different feelings of losing the tournament versus chasing a medal. Fleetwood echoed these sentiments, noting the nervousness he felt trying to secure the silver medal on the final putt. He emphasized the special feeling of standing on the podium with a medal in front of the crowd and how it was one of the most amazing moments of his career as a golfer.

Fleetwood described the back nine of the tournament as unbelievably special, expressing his enjoyment of being back in contention and playing well. Despite not feeling completely comfortable with his golf swing during the week, Fleetwood was pleased with his performance and the experience as a whole. He reflected on the enjoyment and happiness he felt during the final round and standing on the podium, stating that it meant an awful lot to him.
