As the winter holidays approach, whiskey enthusiasts are presented with the chance to acquire exceptional American whiskey. Buffalo Trace’s Antique Collection is always highly anticipated this time of year, and the William Larue Weller Bourbon stands out as a top choice. Aged for over 12 years and bottled at 125.8 proof, this wheated bourbon offers a complex flavor profile with notes of caramel and toffee, finishing with a vibrant spice.

Another standout from Buffalo Trace’s Antique Collection is the Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye. This cask-strength rye delivers a prominent black pepper note on the nose, transitioning to smooth baking spice flavors on the palate. With a wonderfully coating viscosity, this rye leaves lingering flavors of cinnamon, all spice, and clove on the finish.

Booker’s Bourbon has introduced a new special release in 2024 called ‘The Reserves.’ This blend of eight bourbons aged between eight and 14 years offers a layered and complex spirit with notes of baking spice, vanilla, and cherry cola. The limited availability and exceptional aging are evident in the richness and depth of flavors in this bottle.

Four Roses is known for its special blends of multiple bourbons, and the 2024 Limited Edition Bourbon is no exception. This whiskey brings together four highly mature bourbons aged from 12 to 20 years and features aromas of caramel and candy apples. The unique twist of tropical fruit flavors and an underlying herbal layer make this whiskey a contemplative sipper.

Rabbit Hole Distillery’s Boxergrail Founder’s Collection Rye is a limited-edition, cask-strength expression that showcases the impact of aging. The 8-year-old rye offers rich aromas of cinnamon, anise, and brown sugar, with a balanced flavor profile of ginger, tobacco, and blood orange. The evolution in flavors with a couple of extra years in the barrel is evident in this release.

Westland Garryana 9th Edition Single Malt from Westland Distillery is a unique American single malt blend that combines three barrel types for maturation. The whiskey offers a creamy mouthfeel with aromas of burnt marshmallow, mocha, and spices. The complex flavor profile includes notes of ground cloves, fresh cinnamon, and a touch of sweetness.

Castle & Key Experimental Series Vino de Naranja Rye is an innovative release from the relatively young distillery that focuses on experimentation. This classic rye is finished in barrels that previously held a sweet Spanish wine, resulting in bold flavors of orange blossoms, ripe cherries, honey, and baking spices. The cask strength bottling adds depth and complexity to this unique whiskey.

Bhakta 2014 Bourbon is a collaborative effort between WhistlePig’s founder and former master blender to create a sophisticated American whiskey. This 9-year-old bourbon is finished in French Oak barrels that previously held a 1973 vintage Armagnac, adding notes of spice cake, red berries, and maple syrup. The whiskey offers a smooth and complex flavor profile with a hint of charred oak.

Lost Lantern Westland Peated American Single Malt is a highly limited release showcasing a Pacific Northwest whiskey made from heavily peated malted barley. Aged for almost 10 years, this whiskey offers savory aromas of smoke and scorched apples, reminiscent of a marshmallow s’mores by the fire. The unique peatiness adds an intriguing dimension to this single malt.

Old Grand-Dad 16-Year Bourbon is a rare find on store shelves, representing a one-time release for the brand. With a rich history dating back to 1882, this bourbon offers a full-bodied experience with aromas and flavors ranging from leather and tobacco to caramel, vanilla, and lingering baking spices. Bottled at 100 proof, this mature whiskey is sure to appeal to bourbon enthusiasts looking for a straightforward yet complex pour.
