Slicing the golf ball is a common problem faced by many amateur golfers, leading to distance loss and difficulty playing from off the fairway. However, there are ways to avoid slicing by making a few adjustments, understanding the causes, and adopting the right attitude. In a video shared by Andrew Rice, a GOLF Top 100 teacher, he outlines three key moves to straighten out the right-to-left or left-to-right ball flight. These moves include keeping the clubface closed throughout the swing, eliminating rotation at the top of the backswing, and driving onto the front side for better compression on the ball.

One of the main reasons for slicing the golf ball is an open clubface throughout the swing, not just at impact. It is crucial to square the clubface early in the swing to avoid slicing, as the clubface has the most influence on the ball’s curve. Additionally, maintaining the proper grip, posture, and depth in the backswing can also help prevent slicing. A good grip ensures the club is held correctly in the fingers, while proper posture helps steady the downswing club path. Allowing the club to move around the back during the backswing and using the body’s rotation can lead to straighter shots.

To further address slicing issues, a focus on the release, downswing path, and tension elimination is essential. Using drills to exaggerate the release of the clubface and guiding the downswing path with alignment sticks can improve ball flight. Minimizing tension in the grip and allowing for a natural release and speed can also help eliminate slices. Closing your stance can aid in improving backswing depth and turning ability, leading to a correct swing path and eliminating slices. Being willing to hit hooks and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the process of making swing changes are also crucial in improving your game.

Understanding the root causes of slicing and making necessary adjustments can lead to hitting the ball farther and straighter. By adopting the tips provided by experts like Andrew Rice and Kellie Stenzel, golfers can improve their ball flight and overall game. Practicing these techniques consistently and being patient with the process is essential for long-term success in reducing slices. By focusing on clubface control, grip, posture, depth in the backswing, release, and downswing path, golfers can work towards eliminating slicing and enjoying a more consistent and accurate golf game.
