In December 2024, GOLF released its Top 100 Courses in the U.S. and Top 100 Courses You Can Play rankings, with its panel of 100-plus expert course raters identifying the best golf courses in every state. Golf enthusiasts can access all the course rankings on the GOLF website or use the new Course Finder tool to plan future trips. The tool allows users to toggle between various lists, such as Top 100 public courses, best munis, best short courses, best par-3s, and more, as well as filter by price to create a customized itinerary.

One of the top golf courses in Mississippi for 2024/2025 is Laurel Country Club in Laurel. Mossy Oak in West Point, which offers both public access and is a Top 100 Course You Can Play in the U.S., is another highly regarded course. Old Waverly, also located in West Point, is a public course that ranks among the best in Mississippi. Fallen Oak in Saucier and Annandale Golf Club in Annandale round out the list of top golf courses in the state based on GOLF’s rankings.

GOLF’s course ranking process for the Top 100 U.S. and Top 100 You Can Play lists, as well as 50 best-in-state rankings, involved panelists voting on a ballot of 609 courses. Panelists ranked courses in various groupings, from top three in the U.S. to beyond the top 250, and were also able to write in additional courses for consideration. The points assigned to each bucket were used to calculate average scores for each course and determine their rankings. The ranking process relies on the experience and expertise of the panelists, who come from diverse golf backgrounds and have played numerous courses worldwide.

The course rating process is subjective, with the rankings based on the collective opinions of the panelists. Diversity in panelists’ experiences and expertise is essential for building meaningful consensus in the rankings. GOLF’s rankings have been well-received historically due to their straightforward nature, emphasizing the importance of incorporating a variety of perspectives. Golf enthusiasts looking to improve their game can benefit from tools like custom Green Books from GolfLogix, an 8AM Golf affiliate, to navigate the greens at their home courses effectively.

In conclusion, GOLF’s course raters have identified the best golf courses in Mississippi for 2024/2025, ranking them based on expert opinions and experiences. Golf enthusiasts can explore the rankings on the GOLF website and use the Course Finder tool to plan future golf trips. The ranking process involves panelists voting on a wide range of courses and using a straightforward method to determine rankings based on average scores. The diversity of panelists’ backgrounds and expertise contributes to the credibility and accuracy of the rankings. Golfers seeking to enhance their game can utilize tools like custom Green Books to improve their performance on the course.
