Are you looking to plan a golf trip to Virginia? Look no further as GOLF’s expert panelists have identified the best golf courses in Virginia to help you create the perfect itinerary for your next trip. From the remote Omni Homestead – Cascades to the stunning Primland in Meadow’s of Dan, there are plenty of options to choose from. Whether you’re a fan of Slammin’ Sammy or Golden Age architecture, Virginia has something to offer every golfer. Additionally, with GOLF’s new Course Finder tool, you can easily find golf courses near you and filter by price to create a customized trip.

The Omni Homestead – Cascades in Hot Springs is a William Flynn masterpiece located in the heart of Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains. The challenging course features rolling terrain and strategic bunkering, making it a must-visit for fans of Golden Age architecture. Young Sam Snead even honed his game here, making it a historic site for golf enthusiasts. Another top-ranking course in Virginia is Primland in Meadow’s of Dan, which was built on 12,000 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Designed by British architect Donald Steele and associate Martin Ebert, the course offers 18 excellent holes with creative terrain shaping and memorable holes like the par-5 opener with the Pinnacles of Dan as a backdrop.

For a more inviting course, consider visiting Keswick Hall – Full Cry in Keswick. Designed by Pete and Alice Dye, this course offers classic Dye staples like railroad ties and penal bunkering, but with a twist. The course is welcoming to high-handicappers while still providing a challenge for better players, making it a fascinating change from typical Dye designs. Other top courses in Virginia include the Golden Horseshoe – Gold in Williamsburg, The Club at Creighton Farms in Aldie, and Birdwood in Charlottesville. Each course offers its own unique challenges and architectural features that make them stand out in Virginia’s golf scene.

When it comes to ranking golf courses, GOLF uses a simple and straightforward process involving a panel of expert golfers. Each panelist is provided with a ballot of 609 courses and 11 buckets for ranking. The panelists then vote on the courses they believe are the best, with points being assigned to each bucket to determine the final rankings. This process ensures that the rankings are based on the expertise and experience of the panelists, who hail from 15 nations and have played courses all over the world. This diverse group of panelists ensures that the rankings are truly representative of the best courses in Virginia and beyond.

So, whether you’re a fan of challenging mountain courses or more inviting designs, Virginia has something to offer every golfer. With GOLF’s expert panelists and Course Finder tool, you can easily plan your next golf trip to Virginia and experience some of the best courses the state has to offer. From historic courses like the Omni Homestead – Cascades to modern designs like Primland in Meadow’s of Dan, Virginia’s golf scene has something for everyone. So pack your clubs, hit the fairways, and enjoy the beautiful courses that Virginia has to offer.
